Simple answer - for the sake of my 7 years old son (wife is still in). If I dont go, dubs in KH will start telling him "daddy is spiritually weak... but dont worry... we will help you to grow in the truth ... we will take you out in service ...and you should get baptized soon ....) So I am there. I expalin him things after the meeting, I have the Bible study with him (BTW, yesterday it was about Rutherford and Beth Sarim, it was very interesting :-)).
Thats my reason why Iam going there. They will not get my son!!!
a recent awake article seems to okay cremation and i thought at one time the watchtower was against it.. do you have any thoughts one way or the other on the subject?.
With 6.000.000.000 people on Earth I dont see many options .... But I accept ecceptions like Joe Rutherfords wish to buried straight at Beth Sarim garden.
as reported elsewhere on the forum, there were 12 ex-jws at our baptism service yesterday.
twelve.. it was quite an experience to hear about an ex-jw who had moved to another part of the country and had written down 150 names of jws in the area of glasgow she was originally from and had started praying for all those names last summer.
two of the people on her list were at the church yesterday, with their wives and children.
Less families = less sacrificial lambs for the Society's twisted dogma!
Important point Marjorie! It is up to the free will of adult JWs to to live in or to seek the strenght to break free, but I feel very sad for the youngsters - few days ago 12 years boy in our KH commented during WT study "we are so happy to be JW, because we are the only honest people in the world, all the other people are just lying and stealing ..." I felt so bad to see he is completely brainwashed and he really believe in what he hears home ... Kids are so easy to deceive I am happy to hear about each saved kid ...
in our kh broke down the heating system this week, the weather is pretty warm now, so it was just a little bit colder than usually inside during todays meeting ..... and the speaker today during the public talk mentioned: we are happy you came, no matter satan is testing your loyallty by breaking our boiler ..... would you believe it?
if it was satan who is to blame for, do you think jehopvah will send some angels to fix it?.
have you also heard something really stupid being blamed on satan????
Robdar: You are lucky you forgot all the stupid stuff ..
Cameo: Sure this should be main point at the next meeting of the service commitee (maybe even meeting of the body of elders, but I am not sure about that)
Ninja: thanks for the the usefull contact, sure I will pass it to our P.O. (I hope this company operates even in my country...)

a little background about myself will clarify things i think.. my wife and i raised 3 daughters in the org., 2 are still belivers.
the last meeting we attendes as members of a cong.
was dec 3 2001. the process of seeing things for what they really were took a few years motivated by some pretty hard times at the hands of the " most loving people on the earth".
I am not an elder for several years, so I will not help with possible change of society policy, but I believe the main issue is, if "porneia" took place. Porneia is being defined as "gross sexual immorality" which usually is any kind of sexual intercourse (including oral/anal sex) or mutual masturbation. It also could be a "habit" (repeated action) of touching womans breast. It is not just random petting or something simillar. So the key to the answer is what really happend.
It surely is a tough situation, hope your daughter will manage the situation well...
i have grown to hate this statement with a a passion.
as an ms i vowed never to say it, because it never really sounded caring.
it was just a subtle guilt trip.. anyway...my reason for starting this thread is that a 'bible study' i know, (who i am aquianted with other than him being a b.s.
a friend of mine from my youth has just lost his mother, very quick, diagnosed with the big c and died 5 weeks later,sad.. she was lifelong dub,her son,my friend was df'd nearly 40 years ago, never went back, never will.he asked me if,as an old friend of his mums i would give a eulogy at the crematorium,so that it was more personal than just the dubs doing it,i said i would be honoured.his mum was good to us in our teens.. so it was agreed, bro s, would say a bit, then me,then bro s close.
when the dubs found out i was involved they kicked off"he is inactive" "it dosn't fit in with our theocratic thinking to have him involved".. so,my friend says to the elder who phoned him,"you've got three choices, 1)do it my way,or2)just hold a memorial service at the kh,or3)come to the funeral directors with your cheque book and i'll have nothing to do with it,you can do the lot!
so now they are going for option two,and telling the dubbies not to come to the crem, although my friend has said any are welcome,so i will be doing a non-religious ceremony at the crem.with only her son ,me and a couple of her non-dub cousins present, perhaps a stray dub.. here is the weird bit,the dubs will do a memorial service, with none of her family members present, and without me of course!.
I am still in, fading, my wife is active JW, I am far from the age when people make funeral arrangement, but I recently plan to make a Will (just in case..) to make sure there will be no JW involment in my (possible) funeral. I already told this to my wife, but want to put this on the paper!
They caused me so much troubles during my life, so I want to be 105% sure there will no JW influence in my possible funeral arrangement!
